Cable Television

I was talking to a friend online when we first met, and she told me that she only had dial up Internet service. I didn?t think much of this until I flew out to her house to meet her and realized her family had a lot of money. When I asked her again why they had it, she said that they could not get cable television so they could not get cable internet service. What was really surprising about this was that she lived ten minutes outside of a very large city. I was astounded that she was without cable service so close to a metropolitan area.

She?s not the only one though, as there are many that still do not have cable television service. Though for a while I thought cable might die out due to the rush of folks running out to get satellite TV, that was before the introduction of cable internet. There is nothing satellite television can do to beat that. They offer DSL though the phone company, but DSL cannot compare to the Internet you get through cable television.

Though I have more channels than I need on my cable television, I am glad that I have it. I don?t watch much television, but when I get the time to do so, I like to watch something interesting. There isn?t always anything good on the regular channels that many watch, and I love to flip through the most obscure channels that are offered through my cable television provider. I have found a lot of interesting programs that way, and a few of them are from the other side of the globe.

Until everyone can have cable television, there will always be a market for satellite television. There may not come a time when everyone will have it, because it is expensive to lay the cable out for miles for only one or two homes in more rural areas. There are some communities that have dug their heels in when it comes to modernization. I know my hometown cable television company refuses to change their number of channels, and almost did away with MTV a long time ago. They will not be offering nearly what I can get now in my new town, and they will probably stay that way for a long time to come. If they ever agree to cable Internet I might just pass out from shock.
