How would you approach a child to improve reading skills? I have a seven year old daughter, who just started the second grade. Now, I'm certainly proud of her current academic standing. She's a wonderful writer and enjoys telling stories. This is excellent in my book. Also, she is an absolute whiz at math. Solving problems is a synch for her. However, apparently she is not excelling at everything. After conversing with her new teacher, I found out that she struggles with her reading on some level. Yikes! This got me a little down I must admit. Especially since I heard the same spiel from her first grade teacher last year. He also informed me that reading was her weakness. It is basically high time for me to work with her one on one and improve reading skills. I do not want her struggling all year long with this. My wife's expression was harsh when her teacher claimed her reading skills were a couple months behind schedule. Does your child share this dilemma?
