A long road trip can strain even the closest friendships. At first, it can be a lot of fun. You gossip, sing songs together, look at sites, and have a blast. After awhile, however, the thrill can start to wear out. A rode trip can be especially difficult if there are only two people on it. I went on a road trip with my best friend, and I can tell you that after a week we were sick of each other. It is only natural. We were in the car for eight hours a day. There was no one else around to talk to. There was no time to be alone.
We are both practical people, so we decided that we would not fight about it. Instead, we started to play word scramble games. We have always been big fans of word scramble puzzles. We like crossword puzzles, Scrabble, and word searches. The problem is that playing word scramble games in the car is a little bit more difficult. You don't have a board to work with. You don't really have paper to work with. You need to come up with some way that both people can play the word scramble game without the driver losing its focus. It required a good bit of ingenuity, I can tell you!
It took us a while, but we finally came up with some word scramble games that we could play together. The first one was the most obvious. We were driving through a varied landscape, and there were always lots of things to look at. We would start word scramble games where one of us would find something and name it. He would not name it in a normal way. He would give a scrambled version of whatever name that object had. The word scramble games consisted of the other person having to figure out what he was talking about. To give you a simple example, if I saw a bush, I might say that it was a ?shub?. Than the other person would have to figure out that I meant bush.
There are many word scramble games that are better and more elaborate than this one, but we didn't have a lot to go on. We tried playing some deeper word scramble games involving changing around quotes from famous plays, but it proved too distracting. The driver could never pay enough attention to unravel the puzzle.
