Day Care Providers
Over a year and a half ago, I was offered a very cool job in a new business that was moving into my town. My husband was working for the company that owns the building they were moving into, and the woman who was moving in said that she needed someone to help in the store. The position would have been a lot of fun, and it was something that I would have looked forward to doing each day. I had not been working for a while, so I was very excited. I did have my daughter to think about, so I went about the daunting task of looking for day care providers for her.
I first called the day care providers that I found in the yellow pages. Many of them were centers, and their rates were just too high. I would have been working full time, but by the time I paid these rates, made car payments, and all of the other expenses involved with having a job, I wouldn?t have been making much money. I didn?t see any point in it. I called a local agency about day care providers and they offered to send me a list of home day cares in my area.
All of the day care providers on the list were licensed and were on the up and up with state regulations. This was something I was looking for, so getting the list took a lot of stress off of my shoulders. Some of them were new day care providers, but that didn?t mean that they were not any good at what they were doing. The first woman I called lived only a few blocks from me, so I went right up that night to see her and her home.
She had everything she needed to be one of the good day care providers, and I was pleased to see that she had children of her own. Her kids seemed happy and content, and that was one of the best signs to me that someone is good with kids. Her rate was not bad, and my daughter seemed to be excited to go. In the end though, I ended up working from home for that business, and I no longer needed day care providers for my little girl. I could have worked in the store, but when the opportunity to work from home came up, I just had to grab it. A part of me was not willing to give up the days I spent with my little girl just yet.
