Internet Phone Service
One of the best things I ever did was get Internet phone service. Someone I know has had it for a very long time, but because he was always so pompous about everything, I never wanted to try it myself. He went through a different company than I do, and it sounded like he was always having problems. I decided that perhaps I should wait until Internet phone service was a little more reliable before we signed up. However, our local cable company made us an offer that was too good to be true, and we ended up with cable, phone, and Internet service all wrapped up into one package.
I am happy to report that my Internet phone service is wonderful. There are a few downfalls, but they have not been anything that have been too overwhelming. When the power goes out, I do have to do without my Internet phone service. Because it runs through the cable lines into my computer you have to have power in order for the phone to work. Because my husband and I both have cell phones this is not a huge issue for us. I have only been without phone for a grand total of about an hour in the last year. I don?t think that?s too bad a deal.
Not only has my Internet phone service been extremely reliable, it has also been extremely inexpensive. I can call friends in Australia for cents a minute. I used to have to spend ten cents a minute to call my mother who only lives an hour away. Everyone I call in the US is free through my Internet phone service. Most international calls are very inexpensive. I?m not sure how reliable the phone service is to most other places in the world, but I can tell you my connection to Australia has been pretty decent.
Another great feature of Internet phone service was that I was allowed to take my phone number with me. When we switched to Time Warner cable phone service from Verizon, they did everything for us. They informed us that we should not contact Verizon as they could shut off our phone service before the number could be ported. We did is they asked, and we were able to take our phone number with us to Time Warner. Since then, I have been age generally satisfied with my Internet phone service and I would recommend it to anyone who can get it. I do realize that there are some parts of our country who cannot yet get the service, but give it some time and I?m sure it will be available. It?s a great way to save money and keep in touch, all the while giving the phone company the boot.
